Grading tour 2009

Hello Akhal-Teke owners:

Following is a copy of an email that I received from Natasha Pontecorvo regarding her preparations to invite T. Ryabova to come over to grade the purebred Akhal Teke horses in the United States and Canada.  She asked me to forward the information on to as many Akhal-Teke owners that I know of.  No doubt a number of you have already received this notice from someone else – if so, I apologize for the duplication – but two, or even three, notifications are better than none! :>)

I want to emphasize that per Natasha there will be *no charge at all *for the Grading or for travel expenses for grading *Purebred *Akhal-Tekes.  She did say to me that there would be a possiblity that partbred (50% or better) ATs could be graded as well, but there would be a charge for that (I don’t know how much*).***

I also want to emphasize on Natasha’s behalf that this grading tour is not affiliated with any Akhal-Teke Association, and it does not matter if a person is or is not a member of any Association.  Any – and all – Akhal-Teke owners are eligible to have their horses graded.  No doubt there are some AT owners who I have not included in my email – because I don’t know of them – but hopefully you all will be able to pass the information on to all our AT owners – here in the US and in Canada too.

Please reply to Natasha’s requests listed from 1 thru 8 below as soon as possible.  I don’t know the actual date that this tour is planned for, but I feel certain that the sooner Natasha has the information she is requesting, the sooner the date can be finalized.

We all owe Natasha a huge debt of gratitude for getting this organized!

And thank you all in advance for your prompt cooperation – Shirley Schulz

Hello Shirley,

We are now preparing to invite T. Ryabova for grading AT Horses in the US and Canada because all Pureblood AT horses should be written in General Studbook.
The owners of AT horses WILL NOT PAY ANY MONEY for travel expenses or for the Grading.
But we should know all the addresses and numbers of the horses for grading before she will come.
Please,
1.send your address/not P.O.Box/
2.number of PUREBLOOD AT horses that you have
3.year of their birth
4.registration number if they are registered/it doesn’t matter if they are NOT REGISTERED/
5.the names of the horses
6.names of their parents
7.names of their grandparents/second generation / if you know
8.the photos of them/if you can/

Please, send it as soon as possible on my e-mail address.

Please, let it be known to everybody who has Pureblood AT horses, and explain to them that this grading will be FREE to everybody who has PUREBLOOD AKHALTEKE HORSES.

Sincerely,
Natasha

Amin post – registration options

Currently MAAK only considers those horses purebred that are registered with VNIIK. VNIIK also controls the studbook and is not going to let any other organization take control of it. We have outlined the steps for registration to be a MAAK member and to register Akhal-Tekes through MAAK and also Akhal-Teke UK will help register horses without having to be a MAAK member. The benefits of being a MAAK member are that your registered horses will appear in the VNIIK studbook, for an additional fee of course.

However, the expense does seem daunting and there is a question of the benefits of sending MAAK money. To MAAK’s benefit, Ms. Abramova has been responding to E-mails and is willing to help us register our horses. However, MAAK is not considered by the rest of the world to be a working institution and is not currently legally considered one either.

Another organization is being formed, the World Akhal-Teke Organization (WATO), to become an effective world organization, and everyone is invited to participate in its development. One of WATO’s purposes is to allow national organizations to register their own horses. The discussion of this registration process is published here.

Depending on what we agree on, we could register our own horses at cost if we establish a registration through the Livestock Pedigree Act. We would establish our own rules and Canadian Akhal-Teke database (and hopefully also be included in the complete pedigree database Todd Keith is developing for WATO).

We would have to establish our own guidelines for registration, standards such as blood analysis or hair DNA for identification, who takes the samples, permissions or not for all types of AI, and a board to make such decisions.

Of course people would still be free to register with other registrars, including VNIIK, the Akhal-Teke Association of America, and the private one through the Akhal-Teke Society of America. We’ll just try to do something a bit cohesive!

Send us your thoughts!!
